Summer 2026 · Japan Travelogue

From June 30 to July 14, 2026, the journey moved from Tokyo rain, railways, and night light through Lake Kawaguchi and Atami, then onward to Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and Kobe. Fifteen minimal zine posters preserve this summer crossing from Kanto to Kansai.

Follow the journey in order: Tokyo, the lakes and coast, Kansai, then the flight home.

Tokyo Prologue

Arrival above the clouds opens five pages of DisneySea water, rain-wet neighborhoods, Kasukabe rail lines, and Tokyo transfers.

    The flight crossed the clouds into Tokyo, with fields and city beneath the wing forming the journey's opening frame.

Tower, Cloud Ridge & Blue Coast

A rainy Skytree, cloud-shadowed ridges at Lake Kawaguchi, and the sea before nightfall in Atami let the city open into landscape.

    Umbrellas and mist lowered the sky as old Asakusa and contemporary Skytree faced each other in rain-softened light.

    Shrines, coast, and hot-spring streets settled into blue hour, with tiny lights across the water making the sea feel quieter.

Westbound by Rail

The Shinkansen joins Atami to Shin-Osaka; Dotonbori's channel, a Shinsekai table, and Kyoto torii each keep their own rhythm, before the Keihan line carries Kyoto's quiet back into Osaka's night.

    Atami → Shin-Osaka

    The Shinkansen ran west as fields, towns, and light stretched into fleeting lines outside the window, carrying the journey into Kansai.

    From a bridge, the Dotonbori channel cut through the city while signs, restaurants, and crowds unfolded along its watery axis.

    Osaka · Shinsekai

    A day around Tsutenkaku and Shinsekai landed at an ordinary meal, where dishes and tabletop returned the bustle to everyday scale.

    Kyoto · Fushimi Inari & Kiyomizu-dera

    Torii climbed through the woods from Fushimi Inari toward Kiyomizu-dera; after nightfall the Keihan line carried the day south, where Shinsaibashi and Namba traded Kyoto's quiet for Osaka's lights.

Deer, Harbor & Last View

A deer beside Nara's stream, an afternoon flight from Kobe back to Tokyo, and Fuji through the homebound window leave the journey a quiet coda.

    Nara · Nara Park & Higashimuki

    A Kintetsu train from Namba opened Nara: deer in Nara Park, the eaves of Higashimuki shopping street, and an afternoon on Konishi Sakura-dori, where one deer beside a stream and stone bank slowed the hours before returning to Osaka.

    Kobe Airport → Haneda · Back to Tokyo

    From Osaka's Umeda in the early morning, the day crossed Sannomiya and rode the Port Liner out to Kobe Airport; a morning flight carried the journey back to Tokyo, with evening settling in Kamata—a quiet turn before the end.

    Leaving Kamata at dawn, stations, airport, and boarding closed the journey; after takeoff, the wing and distant Mount Fuji shared its final frame.

    The evening returned south to Osaka by the Keihan line, walking at night from Shinsaibashi to Namba before settling back near East Shinsaibashi.

    Osaka → Nara · Deer and an Afternoon

    Leaving Namba at noon, a Kintetsu train crossed the Ikoma hills and handed the day to Nara; by evening the same Nara Line carried the return, with the record ending around Higashiosaka.

    Osaka → Kobe Airport → Kamata, Tokyo

    From Umeda at dawn through Sannomiya and Port Island to Kobe Airport; a midday flight returned to Haneda, and the afternoon settled into Kamata.
